I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Dr. Anne Irfan, a leading historian of Palestinian refugee history, the author of A Short History of the Gaza Strip and Refuge and Resistance: Palestinians and the International Refugee System.
We spoke about the place of Palestinian refugee history in the broader history of refugees and refugee rights.
We spoke about Anne’s argument that Palestinians have “endured continual displacement, containment, and expulsion long before October 2023,” a trend she places in a broader historical logic, which she calls the displacement/immobility nexus.
